Help Save Steph’s Boat!

Hey y’all, if anyone deserves the support of the music community—producers and artists—you know it is Stephanie Eby. She has selflessly invested herself in promoting musicians through her Urban Music Presents newsletter, and she has been at the forefront of countless battles that have been fought to protect the interests of performance artists.
When The National Academy of Recording Arts and Science (NARAS) decided to eliminate the Best Latin Jazz Album GRAMMY, Stephanie passionately petitioned to reinstate the Latin Jazz category. She joined forces with, made up of a committed group of amazing musicians to support REAL MUSIC and attained over 25,000 petition signatures to ask for the reinstatement of the category, and the following year the category was reinstated. On a different note, when Saxophonist Dayna Stephens’ medical costs hit the stratosphere, Stephanie’s full-steam-ahead modus operandi got the word out and she helped organize the jazz community to produce benefit concerts to help offset his ongoing medical costs. Please visit to learn more. She also brought the artists together for Salsa 4 Obama in 2008, launched a fundraising campaign for Jazz Mafia's Brass, Bows, and Beats Hip-Hop Symphony, organized the Latin Jazz All-Star Benefit Concert forSionfonds for Haiti devastated by the earthquake, helped organize fundraisers to save pianist Fred Harris’ and bassist Rustee Allen’s house from foreclosure, organized a grass roots community effort to saveEncantada Gallery from gentrification and she even staged a protest rumba in front of Port of San Francisco when they closed the beloved Jelly’s where she danced to LIVE SALSA on Sunday afternoons for years.
Now it’s pay back time. Let’s show our champion of Latin jazz, blues, and swing that we have HER back. You can do so by donating to the Help Save Steph’s Boat! Gofundme campaign. Or, better yet, join us on Sunday, April 12th at Il Pirata at 2007 16th Street, San Francisco, from 5 to 10 pm for an all-star lineup of top Bay Area musicians.
Please join me in thanking Stephanie for keeping jazz alive and for passionately supporting artists, producers, and venue owners. Yours truly has the honor to be the MC for the evening. See you there!

About The Chata Mural Project

Join the effort to paint a mural of legendary San Francisco DJ Chata Gutierrez in the Mission Dist

rict! Chata gifted us with her salsa show “Con Clave” on radio station KPOO FM 89.5 for over 40 years, influencing our community and the entire Bay Area with her love of music. Chata stuck with us throu

gh thick and thin, providing the soundtrack to our Saturday afternoons while battling her own illness for more than a decade to bring us music from the heart. Mission native and muralist Carlos Kookie Gonzalez painted this beautiful poster for Chata’s fundraiser in 2009 – help us turn it into a public tribute to her spirit. Please share the link to this fundraiser to all your friends, donate as much as you can and spread the word to all those committed to preserving her legacy and our San Francisco culture!
