About Urban Music Presents
Urban Music Presents local community is incredibly diverse and therefore believes in providing access of music to the various cultures in its community, while at the same time working with the local community to stregthen their ability to meet local needs.
Urban Music Presents has been distributing its weekly newsletter since 2007, and has been producing concerts since 2005 which has garnered a distribution list of over 11,000 subscribers from the Bay Area and growing! The primary purpose of the newsletter is to provide a free resource to artists to announce their performances. The second purpose is to educate the readership about great music! It is FREE to both the artist and readership, and regularly has FREE tickets to give away to concerts at Yoshi's, SFJAZZ, Stanford Jazz and other Bay Area venues!
The newsletter features prominent musicians and writers in interviews to date include: Interviews by Dr. Wes Watkins, Dr. John Calloway, Film Writer Christian Divine, Music Critic Chip Boaz, and Music Supporter Linda Wosskow. Interviews to date include: Poncho Sanchez, Rebeca Mauleon, Ahmad Jamal, Orestes Vilato, John Santos, Oscar Hernandez, Rachelle Ferrell, Marucs Miller, Wayne Wallace, Bill Ortiz, Omar Sosa, The Curtis Brothers, Annette Aguilar, Mike Olmos and Alex Cuba.
Urban Music Presents enjoys a strong partnership with various venues such as The Birdland Jazzista Social Club, Pier 23 Cafe, Yoshi's in San Francisco and Oakland, George's Nightclub in San Rafael, The Red Poppy Art House, The Brick and Mortar Music Hall, Festivals in North America, and has produced a weekly Latin Jazz and Folkloric showcase called Tu Gusto Musical, as well as a weekly Afro-Cuban Salsa dance party. These series’ have enjoyed a steadily increasing patronage, and have featured Bay Area musical luminaries such as Marcus Shelby Orchestra, Faye Carol, Sugar Pie DeSanto, Jesus Diaz y sus QBA, John Calloway’s Latin Collective, John Handy, Frank Jackson, Bobbie Webb and Fillmore Slim, 6 Piece & a Biscuit, The Broun Fellinis, Ray Obiedo, Wayne Wallace, Orquesta La Moderna Tradicion, Venezuelan Music Project, Quijerema, and many more.
UMP has a strong team of talented and experienced professionals to work with that include: Event Management, Marketing and Promotion, a significant press list and media relationships, professional working relationships with highly sought after musicians, technical sound engineers, experience with soliciting corporate sponsorship and grant writing.
